Revolutionizing My Wellness: The Factors That Finally Got Me Started In Health

When it comes to my health, I am the typical person who knows they need to be healthier: make smarter choices but is too lazy and unmotivated to do it. For years I dreamt about not only being in great shape, but being able to wear a dress or shorts and not despise every damn second of it. CONFIDENCE! After one too many mornings waking up feeling like shit, I decided to cut alcohol then the rest just followed.

  1. One of the largest factors that got me into exercising and making better choices for my body was giving up alcohol. If you read my Mistakes I Made post, you know alcohol and I don't have the best relationship. Over a span of YEARS off and on, it was was my choice for numbing life but without it I needed something else to fill my free time. Here's what I noticed and honestly just got tired of:

    1. SLEEP. I already don't have the best sleep habits, and a drink would make it worse. It just wouldn't allow me to reach deep sleep and I would wake up every couple hours. By morning I was exhausted and would have to get started on my damn day!

    2. CALORIES. I was drinking 2-4 White Claws a night just because I was bored and too f*cking lazy to make a change. That's 400+ extra calories a night and you know what I would f*cking do? Binge on anything and everything I saw to eat.

    3. WATER DEPLETION. If you've ever had a night of drinking, you know how amazing that glass of water tastes in the morning or the middle of the night. We need water to be healthy, we're made of it Yet, here I was literally depleting myself of it.

  2. "Got rid of social media" and by get rid of I mean uninstalled from my phone. I would spend so much damn time just scrolling through social media and it amounted to absolutely nothing, well one thing...I felt like shit. I would see all of these fitness blogs, before and afters or videos of people in the gym and I would hate that I didn't look like them. So I would have my White Claws which would numb, then be fine until the next time I would aimlessly scroll. What a waste of life!

  3. Started listening to self-help podcasts instead of watching tv. As I started to begin my journey, I thought how can I help myself more? How can I support myself as I work at this? One of my favorite podcasters is Bedros Keuillian. From finances, life, relationships and everything in between he's upfront and tells it as it is and sometimes we just need that kick in the ass to make us really think.

  4. At home equipment. I was blessed enough that I got a treadmill from a family member that no longer wanted it. Moved that bad boy into the house and I literally had no excuse not to use it every damn day. Along with the treadmill, I bought myself a set of beginner dumbbells from TJ.Maxx. Are they the best quality? Of course not, but they sure-as-sh*t get the job done. With those two things, I could at least start with the basics.

Everyone has their own reasons for starting their journey. Maybe it's loosing weight for health problems, a goal to get in the best shape of your life, or maybe you want to run a 5K. Whatever that/those reasons may be, remember to do it for yourself, do it safely and just start with one change!
